Our setting
Have a look around our setting – we are a pack-away preschool, meaning we can use our space as creatively as we want to, but in general we zone the room with an area for whole group time where we take part in welcome time, games and singing; craft area; reflection area and book corner; then we use other areas to encourage mark making, role play, maths and personal and social development by setting up interesting and varied activities. We are often cooking, and have a dedicated outdoor garden for playing in and growing vegetables, fruit and flowers depending on the season, which we then like to cook with too!
Our Garden
We love to make use of our dedicated outdoor space every day to support our children’s learning and development. We grow our own fruit and vegetables as well as bulbs and seeds depending on the season, and often cook with what we have produced too!
Our Allotment
We are also lucky to have an allotment based at the Talbot Road Allotment Site. Here we experience more planting and growing opportunities as well as forest school activities. We have a dedicated digging bed, a sensory garden to compliment our mud kitchen, and a soft fruit and winter vegetable patch, along with lots of resources to help us experience and appreciate the natural world.
Storytelling and reading play a huge role in our curriculum and we use it as a springboard to enhance all areas of learning and development
For example, to explore the topic of the Three Billy Goats Gruff, we had lots of fun playing with small world Billy Goats, we made our own bridges to find out which material would be best to use and then we even made our own bridge to play with out of wood! Once we had made our bridge, we used it for our role play activities.
